• SSH Keys - recommend for running git commands from the terminal
• GitHub Apps - for GitHub Actions and other automation platforms
• Fine-grained tokens - needed for Code Ocean and other platforms requiring a token
• Classic tokens - no longer in use as of March 1st, 2026
